“We're honest.” “No surprises with us.” “Trust us.”

Almost every car rental company says something like this. But the words mean nothing until you pick up the car, sign the contract and hand back the keys. That is when trust is either confirmed or gone.

So we don't want to ask you to trust us. We want to show you the small things you can use to check any company, including us, before you pay.

1. The car you see is the car you get

Many car rental bookings are for a class of cars with the words “or similar”. The photo shows one model, and a different one may be waiting for you: with a smaller boot, without 4×4 or with different equipment.

At Auto Aleya you book a specific car from the fleet, not a category. Before you arrive, you know the model and whether your luggage will fit. More on this in what “or similar” means in car rental.

2. The price is clear when you book

Trust starts with a final amount that doesn't change at the desk. Check whether the quoted price includes insurance, the road vignette and mileage, and how much extras cost, such as delivery, an additional driver or pickup outside working hours.

With us, insurance, the vignette and unlimited mileage are included in the published price. The daily price is shown on each car's page and depends on the season and the length of the rental. Fees for extra services are set out in the rental terms.

3. You can read the contract before you sign it

A long paper contract handed over at a desk with “sign here” is rarely read in full. Good practice is a contract in a language you understand, with time to read it.

Our contract is digital, in Bulgarian and English. You sign it with an SMS code after you have seen the terms. If you want to know exactly what to look for, see what to check in a car rental contract.

4. The car's condition is recorded together with you

The most common dispute in car hire is about a scratch nobody knows the origin of. That is why the car's condition should be recorded at handover, not from memory at return.

At Auto Aleya the car is documented with photos at handover and at return, in a report that is part of the contract. Both sides see the same thing.

5. The deposit is no mystery

Ask in advance how much the deposit is, on which card it is held and when it is released. The deposit is usually also the limit of your liability in case of damage, so the two questions go together.

With us, the deposit is held on a card when you pick up the car and released automatically after you return it in the agreed condition. The included insurance limits your liability for damage or theft to the amount of the deposit.

6. The car is yours for the rental, not a billboard

A small thing, but telling: our cars carry no advertising stickers or QR codes. We don't think a customer should drive around advertising the company they rented from.

7. You can change your plans

Plans change: a flight moves, a meeting is postponed, the weather turns. With us, changing or cancelling a booking is free up to 72 hours before the rental starts.
